CAMP CHEAT 1918
In 1915, leaders of the American Industrial Revolution - Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and famed naturalist John Burroughs embarked on a wilderness adventure in their Ford Model Ts. They sought challenging hunts, untouched wilderness, and escape from the the hustle and bustle of the industrial cities.
During the Summer of 1918, this group of friends, referred to as The Vagabonds, completed the three day journey to Cheat Mountain Lodge in West Virginia. This rugged, three-story log cabin served as their wilderness escape while they fished the Shavers Fork and hunted in the Allegheny Mountains. These adventures continued through 1924 and the cabin that they frequented in WV still stands today.
In Spring 2026, we invite you to join us for something different - Camp Cheat 1918. We’re hosting a filmed 5 day experience living in the very same 3-story cabin that housed The Vagabonds during their wild and rugged adventures. The lodge will serve as the backdrop to fly-fishing with Orvis guides, building a bushcraft skillset, and exploring the Monongahela National Forest by foot and vehicle.
