APRIL 16-20, 2026

CHEAT MOUNTAIN CLUB | DURBIN, WV

Trip Details

After consulting with our Bushcraft and Fly Fishing leads, there are a few specific items you’ll need to secure before you head out. Please review the requirements below.

Bushcraft w/ Rick Stowe

To master the camp survival skills Rick has planned, every participant is required to bring a 2”–5” fixed-blade knife (sharpened).

Note: Please do not bring a folding pocket knife for these sessions; a fixed blade is necessary for safety and performance during bushcraft tasks.

Fly Fishing with Wesley Hodges

Wesley Hodges is the premier guide in the region, and while the team provides world-class expertise regardless of your experience level, you are responsible for your own "on-water" attire.

Required Gear:

  • Waders & Boots: These are NOT provided.

  • Fishing Licenses (There are more than one you need to purchase - details below!)

  • Pro Tip: Avoid neoprene. We recommend textile/dry waders, as we will be hiking along and through the river to reach the best "honey holes." Neoprene will likely cause you to overheat during the trek, even if it’s cold outside.

Recommended but Optional:

  • Polarized Sunglasses: Essential for cutting glare and seeing fish through the water.

  • Personal Gear: Wesley provides rods, reels, tackle, and nets, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer your personal setup.

Fishing License Details

Regardless if you are a resident or nonresident, you will need the following licenses:

  1. Either full season fishing license OR a one day fishing license AND

  2. Conservation/Law Enforcement Stamp AND

  3. Trout Fishing Stamp

You can view the licenses details and exclusions on the WV DNR website.

Nonresidents should expect to pay $34 for four licenses for a single day of fishing or $68 if you would like an annual fishing pass.
