today's beer of the day. @sierranevada @VictoryBeer #beercampacrossamerica #altroute

Today on TBD, Sierra Nevada's Alt Route Altbier. It is a German Altbier that was made in collaboration with Victory Brewing Company out of Downingtown, PA.

"Brewers are notorious for refusing to take the easy path. Instead, we lead with our hearts and pursue our passions no matter how difficult the road ahead. Alt Route is a tribute to this stubborn spirit that drove us to dodge the status quo and found breweries. Together we chased the siren song of beer with this revamped take on an antique beer style."

"Alt Route is our take on the old school German Altbier style featuring an ale-lager hybrid yeast, which is top fermenting and fruity like an ale, but matured at cool temperatures for a clean, lager-like flavor. This deep amber beer has a slight emphasis on the richly layered, slightly sweet malt body with enough citrusy hop flavor and aroma to produce a balanced, dry finish."

My impression of this beer is that it has a very interesting color to it that you immediately notice as you pour it out of the bottle. It is a dark reddish brown beer with moderate head and plenty of visible carbonation as it is resting. It has a thick syrupy smell to it (come on you know what I am talking about) and is also  has hints of sweet malty goodness as well. It has a smooth malt flavor with a hint of citrus and it is slightly bitter at the finish. It also feels think on the tongue and a bit sharp too. This is a very good beer, I really enjoyed the difference in appearance, and the flavor is quite enjoyable as well. It also has a notable ABV, at 6.6% just a few would do you. Another solid beer Sierra Nevada and Victory Brewing. Thanks guys! The 12 pack was $30 and has been well worth it thus far.

The beer was purchased at Lewisburg Spirits and Wine.
