When Chad and his wife took ownership of the '78 Toyota FJ40 that had been in the family for 20 years, they hadn't any idea what adventures were in store for their urban Seattle family. Within just a few months, they and their 40 had traversed the coastal roads from San Diego to Seattle, climbed gnarly trails to pristine alpine lakes, and camped along remote rivers and meadows, their eyes opened to the beauty of wandering up a forest road. Fast forward 5 years and they're still at it, now driven to draw others into the friendship and community that a trip to the mountains brings. You can follow along and get in touch through Instagram.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Chris didn’t receive a real taste of the outdoors until moving to Prescott, Arizona, for college in 2009. While working on his business degree in the Embry-Riddle undergraduate program, he learned to fly and spent his weekends exploring the Arizona desert and high country. He fell in love with backcountry travel and four-wheel drive vehicles, which led him to Overland Journal. Chris was immediately hooked by the concept of overlanding, which combines the excitement and adventure of flying with his affection for cars and trucks. After receiving his degree, Chris did a summer internship with Overland Journal before accepting a full-time position on our team. Follow Chris on Instagram.
